INTRA™ SUPERTRAC
Supervisory Management Skills
The move from doing the work to supervising it. Supervisory duties, health and safety legislation, leadership and planning, delegation and control, and building a team that performs.
The supervisor is the point where a safety system either works or falls over. This programme covers the move from individual contributor to someone accountable for other people, and the legal duties that come with the job.
Why this programme matters
Most supervisors are promoted because they were good at the job, not because anybody assessed whether they could run people. The skills barely overlap, and the gap usually shows up first in safety.
The supervisor is the layer where a safety system either works or quietly stops working. Policies are written above them and tasks are done below them, and it is the supervisor who decides whether a shortcut gets challenged at the moment it is taken. A supervisor who does not know their own legal duties, or who has never been taught how to correct somebody without a confrontation, will avoid that conversation.
This programme covers both halves: the legal obligations that come with the role, and the practical management skills, planning, delegation, communication and problem solving, that make it possible to discharge them.
What the programme covers
- Introduction to supervision: the supervisor's characteristics, duties and the thinking, interpersonal and performance management skills behind them
- Health and safety management and legislation: legal obligations under the OHS Act, incident documentation and safety culture
- Leadership, planning and communication: leadership styles, project planning, job analysis and structured problem solving
- Team development and performance: delegation, supervisory control and building a motivated, cohesive team
What you will be able to do
- Communicate, plan and resolve conflict as a supervisor rather than as a senior operator
- Understand and discharge the legal obligations the role carries
- Build team morale and lift performance
Who it is for
Current and aspiring supervisors
How it is delivered
This is a self-paced online programme. Learners work through it at a time and place that suits them, on any device, so it does not take a shift off the roster. It carries the knowledge and awareness component only. Anything requiring practical demonstration is done face to face.
The programme is INTRA™ legal compliance material covering the OHS Act and its regulations. It is non-credit bearing, which means it is not a unit standard or a qualification. It is included in the INTRA™ PRIME licence.
SUPERTRAC questions
Both, deliberately. One of its four modules is health and safety management and legislation, and the rest is supervision proper: leadership, planning, communication, delegation and team performance.
That is the ideal time. It is also useful for people being groomed for supervision, which is why it is written for aspiring as well as current supervisors.
It covers supervisory control, performance management and structured problem solving. Formal disciplinary and labour law procedure belongs to your HR function.
No. INTRA legal compliance programmes are non-credit bearing.
